Open Comments

I've decided to enable open comments, out of curiosity. If I start getting spammed I'll either go back to registered users only or approve all comments. Part of the reason I started the blog is to get input about my photos. Sometimes I ask for help with identification of my birds, butterflies, dragonflies, etc. It has come to my attention the person that could help me with some butterfly post does not have a google password. So I am going to try it, if I don't like this I will change it back.

For info, google passwords are easy to get, even if you are just going to use for blog comments I would at least know if the comments are coming from the same person, or from different people.

I love all of your photos especially the farm ones and I was wondering if you have any black and white or sepia photos of old churches? I would be interested in seeing them, I don't care much for the ones I see in the stores.
Thanks, Darla

You should not have anything to worry about. I have not had any problems in the year and a half that I have been blogging. It is my opinion that it is better to make it easy for people to leave comments if you are looking for feedback. Besides it will let more people tell you how wonderful your pics are.

I think it's kind of random who gets spam and who doesn't. I have had open comment from the beginning - over 2 years now - and have only received 1 spam which I easily deleted.

I hope all of you are right in this. I went to leave a comment this morning on a blog and it had a spam comment sitting there.

I think I can count the # of spam comments I've had on one hand. Worth a shot. You have some wonderful photos for people to comment on!

Hi Darla :)

If you are logged into your account, you could go to the comment section where the spam is and look for a trash can icon next to the timestamp. Click on it and a screen will pop up saying are you sure you want to delete this comment? Obviously you do, so say yes.

I don't know about you, but sometimes it doesn't appear I'm logged in, even though I am. Sometimes I don't get blogger.

Red - I have decided when it appears I am logged in is if I have been to dashboard. When you have logged in (say, on making a comment on somebody else's blog) it does not give you the little pencil on your own blog until you have 'visited' Dashboard, then as you move around and come back it does recognize you as the owner. I think this is what you were talking about.

Yes, I think you're right, except that it only works that way for me about 75% of the time... but that's not so bad I guess. I'm sure I confuse the cookie maker anyway because I use 4 different devices regularly. (desktop, laptop, work comp & now my iphone)
