Finch in the front yard

I think he might be a Purple Finch. If so, it is another first for me. We have always had House Finch, but have never seen a Purple Finch. This one does look more like a Purple. Any clarifications for me?

I'm not positive, but I think it's a house finch. The purple finches I've seen up at Hasty have had little or no streaking on the flanks. The top photo looks streaky on the side. A better look at the front would help. Do you remember if it was streaky? Here's a link to a purple finch picture from Hasty.

Definitely not an expert on these little birds but I think it's a House Finch due to the heavy streaking on the chest and flanks. It also has the lack of the reddish color in the back feathers.

I agree, I think you've got a Male House Finch. A friend told me that Purple Finches look like they have been dipped in raspberry sauce and when I finally saw one I could see why. They are really red!

Oh well, I tried for a new one. It just looked more red than any House Finch I had seen before. Knew I had never seen a Purple Finch before. Thanks to everybody for helping me with the clarification.
