Great Blue Heron at Veteran's Park

These photographs of the Great Blue Heron were taken October 2 at Veterans Park in Spring City, Tennessee.

I rarely go to Veterans Park without seeing at least one Great Blue Heron, usually there are 2.
I was disappointed when he flew. Something I have noticed about the Great Blue Heron in East Tennessee. When they take off they are as noisy as the Canadian Geese when they fly. Not the same sound, but just as loud. In Florida the ones I have seen take off are not vocal about it.

More fall colors around Watts Bar Lake

These photographs were also taken between Kingston and Rockwood.
These were taken standing on the side of the highway. So quiet and peaceful to be so close to the highway.
The last photograph has 2 men out fishing in the fall afternoon. So relaxing.

Fall Colors around Watts Bar Lake

These photos were taken between Kingston and Rockwood last Sunday afternoon when we first got back to East Tennessee from vacation.
This driftwood in the front looks like it needs a bird sitting on it. Would have made a great photograph.
Watts Bar Lake is on both sides of the highway between Kingston and Rockwood. I love reflections in water anytime of year, but fall just adds to the reflections. I also like the evergreens mixed in here.

East Tennessee Heron in flight

These are a continuation of the previous post. This is when he decided he didn't want to continue to hurt the other one in front of me anymore. Most of the time when they decide to take off in a hurry I miss the change, specially if they actually come in my direction, because sometime I am too close then. This one flew just right for me to get him all the way across the lake.

I guess I should have cropped these, but was not thinking at the time. These were taken at one of the marina at Watts Bar Lake in Spring City, Tennessee.

Two herons in East Tennessee

This 4th photo is not the best, but look at those wings.

These 2 Heron were fighting. Thought one was going to kill the other. I think I disturbed them and one flew off. Is this part of nature? Maybe the one was injured and the other kills it? Ecobirder, do you know? If the one was not injured to begin with it sure was afterwards. One flew off, but the other one looked in bad shape afterwards.
