Fall Colors just barely hanging on

When I got to Spring City yesterday afternoon thought I should get out and take some last photos of the fall colors.

The rain is coming and is suppose to stay for several days. I am sure there will be no leaves left after the rain...except on the ground.

Notice the Eastern Bluebird, thinks he is hiding in the fall colors.

I think he would look good in one of my greeting cards.

Great Blue Heron at Veteran's Park

These photographs of the Great Blue Heron were taken October 2 at Veterans Park in Spring City, Tennessee.

I rarely go to Veterans Park without seeing at least one Great Blue Heron, usually there are 2.
I was disappointed when he flew. Something I have noticed about the Great Blue Heron in East Tennessee. When they take off they are as noisy as the Canadian Geese when they fly. Not the same sound, but just as loud. In Florida the ones I have seen take off are not vocal about it.

Brown Headed Nuthatch

Another first time bird for me. This bird was at Veterans Park in Spring City, Tennessee last week. There were several, so not sure all these photographs are the same bird.
They sounded like very quiet woodpeckers.
The book said they are having trouble because they prefer pine trees and as we all know the pine trees are in trouble in the southeast. Not sure about other regions.

Downy Woodpecker at Veterans Park

I heard a loud woodpecker off in the distance, was trying to locate it when I saw this one above me. He was almost making no noise at all as he went to work. Even as I photographed him I could barely hear him. I just snapped away while he worked at getting those bugs.

The one above is just a little blurred around his head, he was moving fast, as woodpeckers do, and I had my camera set on 1/160 of a second. A little slow for birding, but it did ok. I did change the setting and continued to photograph him.

And then he was gone!

Ducks in Veterans Park

These Ducks were at the Veterans Park in Spring City, Tennessee this past weekend. My husband's job is moving to Spring City very soon, we went there to see the area. Although Spring City is still in East Tennessee it is too far to commute. We were scoping out the surrounding towns to see where we might be interested in living. No major decisions made at this time.
